Myrhorod lies in Poltava Oblast in central Ukraine, on the Khorol River. The river winds past the town in a series of curves, and the map follows that line: the centre sits near the water, with parks and the spa district along the bank and residential streets extending away from it across level ground.
The town is best known for two things. It is a long-established spa resort, and its mineral water, bottled as Myrhorodska, is familiar across Ukraine. It also gave its name to Mirgorod, Nikolai Gogol's collection of stories set in the region, which has kept the town present in literature for nearly two centuries.
