Nakamura is the central town of Shimanto City in Kōchi Prefecture, and its map is defined by water. The Shimanto River, often called one of the last clear rivers in Japan, sweeps along the eastern side, while the smaller Ushiro River curves in from the north. The town fills the flat ground between them.
Its street plan is unusually regular for a rural Shikoku town. In the fifteenth century the court noble Ichijō Norifusa moved here from Kyoto during a time of war, and the town is said to have been laid out after the capital, which is why Nakamura is still known as the Little Kyoto of Tosa.
A Nakamura map poster shows that inheritance clearly: a tidy rectilinear core, embankments along both rivers, long bridges, and forested hills pressing in from the edges. Seen from above, it reads like a small, deliberate plan set down inside a much wilder landscape.
The wide Shimanto passes the eastern edge of town in long curves, its broad bed and gravel banks forming the strongest shape on the sheet.
The central streets follow a regular pattern associated with Ichijō Norifusa and his Kyoto-inspired layout, a striking order for a town of this size and location.
Wooded slopes surround the flat river plain, so the built area stops sharply at the foot of the hills and the map gains a clear outline.

For anyone who grew up in Shimanto, travelled along its river or simply loves Japanese towns with a sense of history, this map holds a lot in a small frame: two rivers, an old plan and the hills that contain them.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be personalised, whether with a family name, a travel date or the Japanese spelling, and the map can be printed in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
