Nilüfer is a district of Bursa spread across the plain west of the historic city, and its map looks very different from Bursa's older quarters. Much of it was built from the late twentieth century onward, so the streets are wide and the blocks are large. Residential complexes, schools and parks sit in a fairly open arrangement.
The district takes its name from the Nilüfer stream, which winds across the plain and appears on the map as a thin, meandering line between neighbourhoods and fields. Major roads heading west cut through in long straight lines. Toward the western edge lies the main campus of Bursa Uludağ University, a large, loosely built area of faculties and green space.
To the south-east, Uludağ rises above the whole Bursa basin. It is one of the best-known ski mountains in Turkey, though it lies outside the district itself. The main campus of Bursa Uludağ University covers a large area toward the west. Its loose arrangement of buildings, roads and green space stands apart from the residential grid.

Much of Nilüfer was planned in recent decades, so its streets are broad and its blocks generous. This gives the map a clear, open texture.
