Nongpoh is the headquarters of the Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya, in northeastern India. It sits on the national highway between Guwahati in Assam and Shillong, the state capital. That road is the backbone of the town. On a map, Nongpoh stretches along it, with side streets branching off onto the surrounding slopes.
The landscape is hilly and green, lower than the Shillong plateau but already clearly upland. Houses and markets gather along the main road, and smaller paths climb to scattered homes among trees and cultivated plots. The district is known for its farming, particularly fruit grown on the hillsides.
A Nongpoh map poster shows a linear town shaped by a single important route. The highway runs as a confident line through the frame, and a looser pattern of hillside lanes fills in around it. The result is a simple, legible composition.
The road between Guwahati and Shillong runs straight through town and forms the long central line that the whole settlement grows from.
Narrow lanes leave the highway and climb nearby slopes, branching irregularly to houses and fields spread across the hills.
Much of the land around the town is covered with forest and farms, which appear on the poster as open space framing the streets.

For people from Ri-Bhoi, or travellers who have passed through on the way to Shillong, this map marks a familiar stop in the hills. Its long linear shape looks good on a narrow wall.
