Peninsula coastline
The outline is the main subject. It is broken and irregular on the open-sea side and calmer where the peninsula meets the mainland, so in black and white it reads almost like a coastal chart.

Oga sits on a peninsula at the western edge of Akita Prefecture, and from above the land looks like a fist pushed out into the Sea of Japan. The coastline makes up most of the drawing. It breaks into coves, capes and rocky stretches on the seaward side, then smooths out where the peninsula joins the mainland. Roads follow that edge closely and leave the forested hills inland mostly empty.
The town is best known for Namahage, a New Year's Eve tradition in which men wearing demon masks and straw capes visit homes to warn off laziness and bad behaviour. The custom is part of how people across Japan picture the peninsula. On a map it matches the landscape: small settlements scattered along the shore, each with its own coastal road and harbour.
A Oga map poster keeps things simple. The sea is left blank, the land is a pale block, and the streets form thin clusters where the villages are. To the east, the flat reclaimed land around the former Hachirōgata lagoon gives a sharp contrast: straight lines and square fields next to the uneven, hand-drawn look of the peninsula's older coast.
The outline is the main subject. It is broken and irregular on the open-sea side and calmer where the peninsula meets the mainland, so in black and white it reads almost like a coastal chart.
Settlements sit around small harbours along the coast. Each shows up as a short knot of streets linked to the next by one road running beside the water.
East of the town, the drained lagoon land is divided into long, straight field lines. It is a flat geometric patch that contrasts sharply with the curving, hilly peninsula.

Ko e hā ʻa Oga
People hang Oga because they grew up by that coast, came for the Namahage nights, or simply like a place drawn mostly by the sea. The peninsula's outline is distinctive enough that anyone who knows it recognises it straight away, even without labels.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to a family name, a winter date or a favourite cape. There are five styles to choose from: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir works especially well with the dark sea around the peninsula.
