Opladen lies on the Wupper River in North Rhine-Westphalia, a few kilometres before the river joins the Rhine. It was an independent town until 1975, when it was merged into the city of Leverkusen, and it remains one of the city's main district centres. On a map the Wupper curves through the town, its banks lined with green space and paths.
For more than a century Opladen was shaped by the railway. A large repair works for locomotives and carriages occupied a wide area beside the tracks, and its long sheds and sidings formed one of the most distinctive shapes on the town's map. After the works closed, the site was redeveloped as a new mixed district and the railway lines themselves were reorganised.
The older centre keeps a compact pattern of shopping streets, while residential districts spread up the gentle slopes on either side of the valley. An Opladen map poster captures a town in transition. River, rail corridor, old centre and new quarter all lie within a few kilometres of each other.
The Wupper winds through Opladen on its final stretch toward the Rhine, flanked by parks and footpaths that draw a soft green line across the map.
A large railway repair site once filled the land beside the tracks. Its redevelopment into a new district has created a fresh, orderly street pattern within the town.
The main line through Opladen runs as a long, straight band, dividing the town and linking it to Cologne and the wider Rhine-Ruhr region.

Ko e hā ʻa Opladen
Opladen still feels like its own town to many who live there, and a map poster is a good way to honour that identity within Leverkusen. It also makes a gift for anyone who trained, worked or grew up near the railway.
Put Opladen or a street name in the title, add a year to the subtitle and keep the coordinates. Choose from five styles, then download HD files in six print sizes or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
