Oshakati lies on the very flat plains of northern Namibia, in the Cuvelai basin, where shallow channels called oshanas fill with water after good rains and then dry out. The region takes its name from them. On a map, the town spreads loosely across this low ground, with roads avoiding the wetter hollows.
Oshakati is one of the main commercial centres of the north, with markets, shops and services serving a wide area. It sits close to neighbouring Ongwediva, and a main road links the two, so the built-up area stretches in a long band.
An Oshakati map poster shows a town without hills or coastlines, defined instead by subtle land and water. The long main road, the grid of central blocks and the pale, winding forms of the oshanas give it a calm, horizontal quality.
Shallow seasonal channels wind across the surrounding plain, and their shapes appear as soft, meandering forms between the streets and homesteads.
A principal road runs through town toward Ongwediva and beyond, forming a strong straight axis along which much of the commerce is arranged.
Beyond the centre, the plain is dotted with scattered homesteads and fields, giving the edges of the map a fine, open texture.

Ko e hā ʻa Oshakati
For people from the north of Namibia, Oshakati is a place of markets, school years and family visits. A map of it is a simple way to bring that landscape into a home in Windhoek or overseas.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a date or name, and edit the coordinates. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
