Ko e mape
Palmas is the youngest state capital in Brazil. It was founded in 1989, after Tocantins became a new state. The city was drawn on a drafting table before a single street existed, and it shows. From above it is a regular pattern of large blocks, known locally as quadras, separated by broad avenues that meet at clean right angles.
To the west lies the wide lake formed by a hydroelectric dam on the Tocantins River. It gives the city a long, soft shoreline and beaches used through the dry season, and a lengthy bridge crosses the water toward the far bank. To the east, the ridges of the Serra do Lajeado close the view and frame the grid.
At the centre of the plan is the Praça dos Girassóis, a very large civic square that holds the state government palace. A Palmas map poster shows how clearly the original design still reads, from the central axis and its square to the superblocks that fill the land between the lake and the hills.
Large, near-identical quadras tile the city, each enclosed by arterial avenues. The repetition makes Palmas one of the most geometric urban layouts in Brazil, and it stands out especially in the Blueprint style.
The dammed Tocantins spreads into a wide lake along the western edge. It gives the poster a large, calm area of water and a long, gently indented shoreline.
The central civic square, home to the Palácio Araguaia, sits where the main avenues cross. It forms a clear focal point in the middle of the planned city.

Palmas appeals to people who like planned cities and clear geometry, and to residents who watched it grow from open cerrado into a capital. Set the title to Palmas or to your quadra, and use the subtitle for a moving date or a personal note.
Sand suits the dry-season light and Blueprint brings out the planned layout, with Classic, Noir and Paper as the other options. Download HD files for $9, or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed or unframed.
