Pengpu sits in the north of central Shanghai, within Jing'an District, in the part of the city that grew outward from the old Zhabei area during the twentieth century. From above it is a tight patchwork of housing estates. Their rows of mid-rise blocks are set at regular angles and divided by broad roads that carry traffic between the inner city and the northern suburbs.
The name is closely tied to Pengpu Xincun, one of Shanghai's planned residential new villages, and Metro Line 1 still has a station named after it. On the map the line is a strong north–south stroke. It runs above ground through much of this part of the city and links it to the railway station area and the centre to the south.
A Pengpu map poster works at street level, not skyline level. In black and white, the fine lanes between blocks, the small green squares and the long straight avenues become a restrained graphic pattern. Anyone who has lived or worked here will recognise it before reading the title, because it shows the everyday geography of a real Shanghai neighbourhood.
Rows of residential blocks laid out in parallel within each estate give the map an even, finely combed texture that shifts direction slightly from one compound to the next.
Shanghai's first metro line runs through the area on a north–south route, with a station named after Pengpu Xincun. It forms the clearest single line on the sheet.
Wide roads enclose the neighbourhood in large rectangles and link it south toward the railway station area and north toward Baoshan, a frame that holds the smaller streets in place.

Ko e hā ʻa Pengpu
People hang a Pengpu map because it records ordinary daily geography: the walk to the metro, the estate gate, the corner shop. It is a way to keep a Shanghai home on the wall after moving on, or to mark the neighbourhood where a family first settled in the city.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so the poster can carry a family name, a move-in date or the name of an estate. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
