Pingdu is a county-level city administered by Qingdao in Shandong province, but it lies well inland from the coast and the port. Seen from above, it is a compact urban core in a wide agricultural plain, where fields, villages and straight rural roads cover most of the land. The city stands on fairly level ground, which lets its streets run in long, regular lines.
The central district follows a broadly rectangular layout, with main avenues crossing at right angles and newer residential blocks filling in the edges. Small rivers and drainage channels cross the surrounding land. At poster scale they appear as thin lines threading between the farmland and the city grid. The overall effect is orderly and easy to read.
For people from Pingdu, the familiar view is not the sea but the plain, and the map reflects that. A Pingdu map poster shows a side of the Qingdao region that visitors rarely see: a steady inland city, planned and legible, set within the geometry of the farmland around it. It is a quiet map, and its strength is in that order.
The central streets mostly meet at right angles and form even blocks. They give the poster a calm, orderly texture, without the tangle of an older walled town.
Beyond the edge of the city, straight field roads and scattered villages spread across the plain. They frame the urban core with a lighter, more open pattern of lines.
Although it belongs to Qingdao, Pingdu has no coastline of its own. Its map is defined by land, roads and small watercourses rather than by bays and harbours.

A map of Pingdu often goes to someone who grew up there and now lives in Qingdao, elsewhere in China or abroad. The layout is simple enough to recognise at a glance, and it says home without needing any explanation.
