Planaltina sits on the central Brazilian plateau in the northeast of the Federal District, and from above it reads as two towns in one. A compact historic centre with short, irregular streets keeps the older pattern. Around it spread the wider, more regular residential sectors that grew as the capital region filled in, and beyond them the map breaks up into farmland, gallery forest and dry cerrado.
The settlement is older than Brasília itself and is usually described as the oldest urban centre in the Federal District. Its link to the capital goes back further than most people expect: in 1922 a foundation stone for a future federal capital was laid on a hill near the town, decades before construction began. Planaltina has kept that sense of being the place where the plateau was first settled.
A Planaltina map poster captures that contrast between the small original grid and the planned growth that followed. Streams cut shallow valleys through the surrounding land, and roads run out toward the ecological reserve of Águas Emendadas and the spiritual community of Vale do Amanhecer, both on the town's outskirts. In black and white, the open ground between neighbourhoods becomes as much a part of the design as the streets.
The oldest part of town keeps a tight, uneven street pattern around its colonial-era church, a clear contrast with the broader and more regular blocks laid out later.
Newer residential districts spread out in orderly blocks and long avenues, typical of the Federal District's growth and easy to read as distinct patches on the map.
Where the streets end, the plateau opens into savanna, farmland and stream valleys, leaving wide pale margins that frame the built-up area on the poster.

Ko e hā ʻa Planaltina
Planaltina is a place people tend to know personally rather than from postcards, which makes it a natural subject for a map on the wall. It suits anyone who grew up here, moved on to Brasília, or wants a reminder of where the capital region began.
You can set your own title and subtitle, change the coordinates line to mark a home or a street, and choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The same design works as a digital file or a printed poster.
