Planalto is a municipality in the southwest of Bahia, in the upland country of the state's interior, not far from Vitória da Conquista. Its name means plateau in Portuguese, which suits the elevated terrain of the region. The economy around it is mainly agricultural, and the landscape is made up of farms, pasture and patches of native vegetation.
On a map, the town appears as a compact cluster of streets, largely in a rectilinear pattern typical of towns in the Brazilian interior.
