Pointe-Claire lies on the southern edge of Montreal Island, facing the wide water of Lac Saint-Louis, where the St. Lawrence widens. On a map the city looks like a long, deep strip. Along the lake, the older village streets curve with the shoreline. Moving north, they give way to looping residential crescents, then to the broad blocks of commercial and industrial land beside the highways.
The city takes its name from the point of land that pushes into the lake. There a stone windmill built in the early eighteenth century still stands beside a church and a convent. It is one of the oldest windmills in the Montreal area. Lakeshore Road follows the water, while the commuter rail line and Highways 20 and 40 cross the city as strong east–west lines.
A Pointe-Claire map poster reads like a cross-section of suburban Montreal history. It moves from the lakeside village of the French regime to the postwar crescents, and then to the large rectangles of shopping and industry further inland. Rendered in black and white, the contrast between the irregular shoreline and the orderly layers behind it gives the print an unexpectedly graphic quality.

This road traces the curve of the shore past the village centre, marinas and parks, keeping close to the lake along the city's southern edge.
Highways 20 and 40 and the rail line run across the city in parallel. They split the waterfront neighbourhoods from the commercial districts further north.

For West Island families, the map is a portrait of home: the lake at the bottom, the school streets in the middle, the mall and the highway at the top. It also makes a quiet gift for someone who has moved away from Montreal.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a street address or a moving-in date. Then choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9 and include print sizes from 30×40 cm to 24×36″.
