Pontault-Combault lies in Seine-et-Marne, on the eastern edge of the Île-de-France conurbation. On a map it is a mix of suburban patterns. Streets of detached houses sit beside larger residential estates, and woodland and open space form the edges of the town.
The commune takes its name from two former villages, Pontault and Combault, which grew together into one town as the Paris region expanded. The N4 national road runs through the area toward eastern France, and the RER E line links the town to central Paris. Forests nearby give the southern and eastern edges a greener feel.
