Poukham Un lies in the Fatick region of west-central Senegal. It is a flat landscape of farmland and savanna trees, with the salt flats and tidal channels of the Sine-Saloum closer to the coast. The Fatick region is part of the historic Sine area, closely associated with the Serer people and their farming traditions, including millet and groundnut cultivation.
