Puerto Maldonado stands at the confluence of the Madre de Dios and Tambopata rivers in southeastern Peru. The town occupies the high ground inside the angle where the two rivers meet. Its streets form a regular grid of blocks that ends abruptly at the riverbanks. Beyond the streets the map opens into meandering channels, oxbow lakes and dense lowland forest.
As capital of the Madre de Dios region, it is the main gateway to the Tambopata National Reserve and other protected areas of the Amazon basin. The Interoceanic Highway, which links Brazil with Peru's Pacific coast, passes through the town. It crosses the Madre de Dios on a long suspension bridge, one of the most striking structures on the map.
A Puerto Maldonado map poster keeps both sides of the place in view: the ordered town grid and the wild, looping rivers that define it. Brown water and green canopy become simple lines and open space, and the confluence becomes the natural centre of the composition. It reads as a frontier map, precise in the middle and loose at the edges.
The Tambopata joins the broad, winding Madre de Dios right beside the town. The meeting of the two channels is the strongest shape on the poster.
The Interoceanic Highway crosses the Madre de Dios on a long suspension bridge, which appears as a single straight line spanning the wide river beside the town.
Between the two rivers, streets form a regular grid around the main plaza. They end at steep banks where small ports and boat landings meet the water.

Travellers who began a rainforest trip here, researchers based at jungle lodges and families from Madre de Dios hang this map to remember the river town at the edge of the Amazon. The meandering channels give it a distinctive, almost botanical look.
Add a title such as a trip date or lodge name, plus a subtitle and your own coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand and Paper suit the warm tones of the river country.
