Pulheim lies just beyond Cologne's northwestern edge, on the flat, fertile land of the Cologne Lowland. It is less a single town than a group of former villages that were combined into one municipality. The best-known of these is Brauweiler, whose Romanesque abbey, founded in the eleventh century, still stands at the heart of the district.
