Quận Ba, better known as District 3, lies just north-west of the historic centre of Ho Chi Minh City. Its streets form a dense, fairly regular grid of long avenues and shorter cross streets, much of it laid out during the French colonial period. To the north, the Nhiêu Lộc – Thị Nghè canal curves along the edge of the district, a green corridor that gives the map a soft boundary.
The district is known for its shaded, tree-lined streets and for colonial villas, many now used as offices, consulates or cafés. Tân Định Church, painted a distinctive pink, stands on its northern side, while Xá Lợi Pagoda and the traffic circle around Hồ Con Rùa, the Turtle Lake, are well-known landmarks closer to the centre.
Recent administrative reforms have reorganised Ho Chi Minh City into new wards, but the name District 3 remains in everyday use.
