Reigate lies in Surrey at the foot of the North Downs, and the chalk ridge forms the northern edge of its map. The A217 climbs Reigate Hill in a long sweep, and the M25 runs just beyond the ridge. Below it, the town gathers around a compact historic centre on the High Street, with residential streets spreading south and east toward neighbouring Redhill.
The town has a notable set of green spaces for its size. The grounds of the former castle, now a public garden above caves cut into the sandstone, sit close to the centre. Priory Park, with its lake and the old priory building, stretches to the south. To the west, Reigate Heath adds open common land and a windmill.

Castle grounds
The site of Reigate Castle is now a garden above sandstone caves. A short road tunnel dug beneath it in the 1820s still carries a path through the grounds.
Priory Park
This large park south of the High Street holds a lake, woodland and the former priory. It forms a generous open shape beside the town centre.
