Rio Preto da Eva lies east of Manaus in the state of Amazonas. The town grew along the highway that runs from the capital toward Itacoatiara. From above, the built-up area is a narrow band of streets clinging to that road, with forest pressing in on both sides and only a few straight side streets branching off before the green takes over.
The town takes its name from the Rio Preto da Eva, one of the dark-water rivers typical of this part of the Amazon basin. On a map the river and its tributaries wind loosely through the municipality, a pattern of meanders and oxbows that contrasts with the few straight lines people have added. The area is known regionally for fish farming, and the ponds show up as small geometric shapes in the forest.
A Rio Preto da Eva map poster reduces all of this to a clear black-and-white drawing: the highway as a strong spine, the modest street grid gathered around it, and the looping lines of the water beyond. It is a quiet image of a place where the forest still sets the limits of the town.
The main road from Manaus runs straight through town, and nearly every street connects to it. On the poster it reads as the one firm line holding the settlement together.
The Rio Preto da Eva gives the town its name. Its winding course and side channels form loose, organic curves across the surrounding land.
The street pattern stops abruptly where the forest begins, so the town appears as a compact cluster surrounded by open space on the map.

For people from the Amazonas interior, this map is a reminder of a town defined by its road and its river. It suits a home far from the region, or a house nearby where the place is simply part of daily life.
