Saikai occupies the northern part of the Nishisonogi Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture, on the western edge of Kyushu. The city was formed in 2005 through a merger of several towns, and its territory includes the mainland peninsula and islands such as Oshima and Sakito. From above, the coastline is intricate, with deep inlets, narrow straits and small bays cutting into wooded hills.
In the north, the Saikai Bridge crosses the Hario Seto strait, where tidal currents swirl through a narrow channel between the peninsula and Sasebo. To the east lies the calm, almost enclosed water of Omura Bay, while the western shore faces the open East China Sea. Settlements are spread along the coast, linked by roads that follow the curves of the shoreline.
A Saikai map poster is almost as much sea as land: the jagged edges of the peninsula, the islands offshore and the thin lines of bridges joining them. In black and white, the complex coastline turns into a graphic composition, ideal for anyone who loves island geography and the quieter corners of Japan.
A narrow channel in the north separates Saikai from Sasebo, crossed by the Saikai Bridge and known for its strong, swirling tidal currents.
Islands such as Oshima and Sakito belong to the city, adding separate shapes to the map and joined to the mainland by road bridges.
Inlets, coves and headlands give the peninsula an irregular outline, with small settlements tucked into bays along the shore.

Saikai is a place of ferry routes, fishing ports and coastal drives, and its map appeals to anyone who enjoys the sea or has family in Nagasaki Prefecture. It works well in a calm room where the complex coastline can be admired up close.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a place name in Japanese or a date, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand; Blueprint reflects the sea especially well.
