Saint-Louis is one of the most distinctive city shapes in West Africa. Its historic centre occupies a long, narrow island in the Senegal River, close to the river's mouth. To the west, the Langue de Barbarie, a thin sandy spit, separates the river from the Atlantic Ocean, and to the east the mainland districts spread along the shore.
Founded by the French in the seventeenth century, Saint-Louis served as the capital of Senegal and of French West Africa. Its island centre, with a regular grid of colonial-era streets, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Faidherbe Bridge, a metal bridge from the late nineteenth century, connects the island to the mainland.
A Saint-Louis map poster shows three parallel bands: mainland, island and spit, each separated by water. The fishing quarter of Guet Ndar on the spit adds a dense texture near the ocean. It is a composition with an unusually clear structure, and one that people recognise immediately once they have seen it.

The metal bridge crossing to the mainland is the city's best-known landmark. On the map it forms a strong horizontal line across the river.

Saint-Louis stays with people who have walked its island streets, whether they grew up there or visited for a festival. The layout is so clear that the poster works as both a map and a graphic.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the island's position or a date. Blueprint suits the river channels, and Sand echoes the spit and dunes.
