Saint Neots grew up on the River Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire, and the river still organises the map. The historic centre and its broad market square lie on the eastern bank, close to the bridge, while Eaton Socon and Eaton Ford spread along the western side. To the south, Eynesbury forms another old core, now joined to the rest of the town.
Between these areas, the river is lined with open green space, including riverside meadows and parks that break up the built-up area and give the centre of the map a surprisingly open feel. Newer housing extends east toward the railway, where the East Coast Main Line passes the town, and major roads skirt its western and southern edges.
A Saint Neots map poster shows a town that is often described as the largest in Cambridgeshire yet still keeps a clear river-town shape. In black and white, the winding Great Ouse, the meadows and the tighter streets of the old centre combine into a balanced, readable composition.
The river runs north to south through the town, dividing the old centre from Eaton Socon and Eaton Ford and giving the poster its strongest, most graceful line.
Wide green spaces along the river, including the park and meadows near the centre, leave calm open areas right at the heart of the map.
Eaton Socon, Eaton Ford and Eynesbury were once separate settlements. Their older cores remain visible as distinct clusters within the larger street pattern.
