Sama Map Poster
Sama, often called Sama de Langreo, is the administrative centre of the municipality of Langreo in central Asturias. It lies in the narrow valley of the Nalón River, and its map follows the water. Streets run along both banks, bridges cross at intervals, and the town stretches in a long band wherever the valley floor leaves room.
This was the heart of the Asturian coal basin, and the landscape still shows that history in its railway lines, former mine sites and dense workers' housing. The Langreo railway, opened in the mid-nineteenth century to carry coal toward the coast, was one of the earliest in Spain. A Sama map poster traces this industrial corridor between the hills.
Above the valley the slopes are steep and green, with small villages and farms reached by winding roads. The dense, linear town on the valley floor contrasts with the scattered settlements above, which makes a strong composition.
