Sekong is the capital of Xékong Province in southern Laos, one of the country's least densely populated provinces. The town was laid out fairly recently as an administrative centre, and the map shows it. There is a small, mostly regular grid of streets, with little of the winding pattern of older river towns.
The Xe Kong river gives the town and province their name. It flows past on the town's edge on its way south toward Cambodia, where it later joins the Mekong system. East of the town the land rises into forested uplands toward the Vietnamese border. To the west lies the edge of the Bolaven Plateau.
A Sekong map poster is spare. There is a modest grid, a wide river, a few roads leading out, and a great deal of open land. That emptiness is what makes it work on a wall. Every line counts, and the river's curve does much of the work.
The river runs wide along the town's edge. It is the strongest element on the map, a broad band that curves through the frame.
Sekong's centre follows a simple, mostly orthogonal layout. It reflects the town's recent founding as a provincial seat.
A few routes leave town toward the Bolaven Plateau and the eastern uplands. On the map they are thin lines stretching across wide open space.

Ko e hā ʻa Sekong
For someone who has worked, travelled or grown up in southern Laos, Sekong stands for a particular kind of quiet. A minimal map of it is an unusual, personal choice that few other walls will share.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself, in English or in a transliterated Lao name. Choose one of five styles. Blueprint and Sand suit the river and open land well.
