Settat is in the Chaouia plain south of Casablanca, on the main road and motorway to Marrakech. The land around it is open, gently rolling farmland known for cereal growing. On a map, the town is a clearly defined urban area inside that farmland, with main roads running straight to it across the plain.
The older part of the town has narrower, more irregular streets. Newer districts spread around it on more regular plans, with wider avenues and some public gardens. Settat is the home of Hassan I University, whose campus adds large institutional blocks to the edge of the town.
