Shepherds Bush lies in west London, in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Its centre is Shepherd's Bush Green, a triangle of open ground where the Uxbridge Road, Goldhawk Road and other main streets meet. From above, the green is the clear focal point, surrounded by shops and terraced residential streets that spread north towards White City and south towards Brook Green.
To the north, the Westfield London shopping centre forms a large block beside the railway and the West Cross Route, and the former BBC Television Centre stands nearby at White City. The Shepherd's Bush Empire, a theatre turned concert venue, faces the green. Victorian terraces fill much of the district, their parallel rows giving the map a fine, even pattern.
