Singen lies in the Hegau, a landscape in southern Baden-Württemberg known for the eroded volcanic hills that rise from its plain. The town spreads across the valley floor. A dense centre sits by the railway, and residential districts and industrial areas extend outward, while the steep cone of Hohentwiel stands just west of the streets.
Hohentwiel is crowned by the ruins of one of Germany's largest fortresses, and it hosts an open-air music festival each summer. Singen grew mainly in the industrial era, when its location on the railway drew factories, including the Maggi works founded by Julius Maggi in the late nineteenth century. Lake Constance and the Swiss border are both a short distance away.
A Singen map poster combines the busy grid of an industrial rail town with the rounded outline of the volcano beside it. The small Aach river and the railway lines add further structure. It makes a meaningful piece for people who work or grew up in the Hegau, or who have climbed Hohentwiel for the view across to the Alps.
The volcanic hill with its fortress ruin rises beside the town, and on the map its winding access paths and open slopes stand out clearly.
Several rail lines meet in Singen and cross the town in long curves, drawing strong lines that divide the centre from its industrial districts.
Around the town, farmland and neighbouring villages spread across the plain between other volcanic hills, giving the edges of the poster a looser pattern.

Ko e hā ʻa Singen
Singen is often described as a working town, and its map shows that honestly. Rail lines, factories and neighbourhoods sit side by side, with the fortress hill always in view. For locals and those who moved away, it is instantly recognisable.
