Sumber is the administrative centre of Cirebon Regency in West Java, just southwest of the city of Cirebon. It sits on the gently sloping plain between the Java Sea coast and the volcanic highlands around Mount Ciremai. Its map shows a town where government offices, markets and dense kampung neighbourhoods are closely interwoven.
Main roads link Sumber with Cirebon and with other towns across the regency, and the built-up area spreads along them in long strips. Between these roads, narrow lanes branch through residential areas and soon reach rice fields, whose irrigated plots create a fine, regular texture around the town. Small rivers and channels drain from the higher ground toward the coast.
A Sumber map poster captures the close relationship between town and field. The street network is intricate at the centre and looser at the edges, and the rural pattern fills the surrounding space. The slope of the land from mountain to sea is quietly visible. It is an understated image of a working regency capital.
Government buildings and main public spaces cluster in the town, with the principal roads meeting around them. This gives the map a clear focal area within the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Dense residential areas are threaded with narrow, irregular lanes. At poster scale they create an intricate, almost hand-drawn texture between the wider roads.
Irrigated paddies surround the built-up area in small, closely spaced plots. They form a light, patterned border that shows how quickly town gives way to farmland.
