Ko e mape
Sumpango sits in the department of Sacatepéquez, in the central highlands of Guatemala, a short distance from both Antigua and Guatemala City. From above, the town has a colonial-style grid around a central square and church, with streets following the uneven ground at the edges. The Inter-American Highway passes nearby, a curving line through the hilly landscape.
The town is best known for its giant kite festival held every 1 November, on the Day of the Dead, when enormous handmade barriletes are raised in the cemetery. The tradition draws visitors from across Guatemala and abroad. On the map, the cemetery appears as a small open space near the edge of town.
A Sumpango map poster shows a highland settlement where the order of the central grid meets the softer lines of farmland on slopes. Surrounding fields and villages form a patchwork around the town. In monochrome, the dense centre and the scattered rural tracks create a clear, balanced composition.
Straight streets extend from the central square and church in a regular pattern, the classic layout of towns in the Guatemalan highlands.
The highway curves past the town through the hills, a long flowing line that links Sumpango to the capital and to the western highlands.
Around the grid, small plots and rural paths follow the terrain, softening the edges of the map into a looser texture.

Ko e hā ʻa Sumpango
Sumpango means something to people who have stood in the cemetery on 1 November watching the kites, and to families with roots in Sacatepéquez. A map keeps that memory in a quiet, lasting form.
