The Sunshine Coast is not a single city but a long urban coastline, stretching north from Caloundra past Mooloolaba and Maroochydore toward Coolum, roughly an hour's drive north of Brisbane. On a map it reads as a string of settlements tucked between the Pacific and a series of rivers, canals and lakes, with the Bruce Highway running parallel inland.
Its natural features are unusually varied for one frame. The Maroochy and Mooloolah rivers reach the sea through town centres lined with canal estates, the Pumicestone Passage separates Caloundra from Bribie Island in the south, and to the southwest the Glass House Mountains, the eroded cores of ancient volcanoes, rise abruptly from the plain. Inland, the Blackall Range carries a line of small hinterland towns.
A Sunshine Coast map poster works well precisely because of this variety. The smooth sweep of the surf beaches contrasts with the intricate fingers of canal developments, the winding rivers and the scattered shapes of lakes and headlands. In a clean black and white style, the whole coastline becomes a long, elegant composition that suits a vertical or horizontal frame.
Behind the beach at Mooloolaba, residential canals branch from the Mooloolah River in a tight comb of waterways, one of the most intricate patterns on the map.
The Maroochy winds in from the hinterland and meets the sea at Maroochydore, where sandbanks and a shifting river mouth mark the heart of the coast.
Steep volcanic plugs rise from the plain in the southwest of the region, standing apart from the coastline as isolated forms beyond the edge of the towns.

The Sunshine Coast is where many Queenslanders spent childhood holidays, and where many now choose to live full time. A map of it holds the beach, the river and the hinterland drive in one view, making it a natural gift for a new home or a milestone by the sea.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a suburb, a beach or a special date. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and download 300 DPI files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
