Svendborg sits on the south coast of Funen, facing the narrow Svendborgsund strait. On a map, the town rises from the water in a series of streets that climb the slope, with the old centre close to the harbour and newer districts spreading uphill and along the shore. The waterline, with its quays, marinas and small inlets, gives the drawing a lively edge.
Across the strait lies the island of Tåsinge, joined to Funen by the Svendborgsund Bridge, which draws a long line over the water. Ferries leave the harbour for Ærø and smaller islands of the South Funen Archipelago, and the town has a long maritime tradition. The Svendborg shipping company founded in 1904 became the foundation of what is now the Maersk group.
Bertolt Brecht lived near Svendborg in the 1930s, and his Svendborg Poems take their name from the place. A Svendborg map poster brings together the sound, the bridge, the harbour basins and the hilly streets above them, a composition in which water and land share the page almost equally.
The narrow channel between Funen and Tåsinge runs along the town's southern side, a curving band of water that defines the whole shape of the map.
The Svendborgsund Bridge crosses the strait in a single long line, linking the town to the neighbouring island and its wooded shore.
Quays and marinas sit at the water's edge while streets climb the slope behind them, producing a layered pattern of short lanes and longer contour roads.

Ko e hā ʻa Svendborg
Svendborg is a place people sail from, holiday in, study in and come back to. For anyone with a boat in its harbour or summers spent in the archipelago, the map is a clear, graceful reminder of the sound and the town above it.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a boat name or a year, and edit the coordinates line. Choose among five styles, including Blueprint and Noir, and order a printed poster with optional wooden frame or the $9 digital files.
