Tláhuac is one of the sixteen boroughs of Mexico City, in the southeastern corner of the capital on the bed of the old Chalco and Xochimilco lakes. Its northern part is densely built. The south and east remain partly rural, with farmland, wetlands and small towns older than the city's expansion.
The borough preserves a network of canals and chinampas, raised farming plots built in shallow lake water since pre-Hispanic times. On a map they appear as narrow rectangles separated by thin channels, a pattern found in few other parts of the city. San Andrés Mixquic, within Tláhuac, is known for its Day of the Dead celebrations.
Volcanic landforms frame the area, including the Sierra de Santa Catarina to the north and the Teuhtli volcano to the south, and Metro Line 12 ends here. A Tláhuac map poster brings together the dense streets of the north and the watery farmland of the south in a single, layered image.
Long, narrow plots divided by channels create a fine, striped texture in the south of the borough. They are a living trace of the lake farming that once fed Tenochtitlan.
The slopes of the Sierra de Santa Catarina and the cone of Teuhtli interrupt the street pattern. They leave open, rounded areas where the city stops and the terrain takes over.
Line 12 runs along Avenida Tláhuac to its final station, drawing a long, straight line into the borough through the dense residential blocks.

Tláhuac is a map for people who grew up between canals and avenues, or who return to Mixquic every November. Personalise the title with the borough or a pueblo name, add a date as the subtitle and adjust the coordinates to your own street.
Blueprint and Noir bring out the canals, while Paper, Sand and Classic black & white give a quieter look. HD files cost $9 for all six sizes, and a printed poster on matte paper, framed or unframed, is also available.
