Torres sits at the northern end of Rio Grande do Sul's coastline, where the Mampituba River marks the border with Santa Catarina. On a map the town lies between the river mouth, a straight stretch of Atlantic beach and a group of basalt headlands that interrupt the long, smooth southern Brazilian coast. The streets form a fairly regular grid behind the seafront.
The town takes its name from these rock formations, which rise as cliffs along the shore. They are protected in the Guarita state park. Just offshore lies Ilha dos Lobos, a small island that is a refuge for sea lions. Torres is a popular summer resort and also hosts a well-known hot-air balloon festival.
A Torres map poster frames a beach town with an unusually strong outline: river, cliffs and sea around a neat grid. It suits summer regulars, families with a house on the coast and anyone who has watched the waves break against the basalt.
Rocky headlands push out into the ocean and break the long sandy coastline, forming the cliffs that give Torres its name.
On the northern edge, the Mampituba River reaches the sea and separates Rio Grande do Sul from Santa Catarina.
Behind the beach a regular street grid runs parallel to the coast, giving the resort an orderly shape against the curving shoreline.

People hang this map to remember summers by the sea, a family beach house or a stay on the coast of southern Brazil. The cliffs and the river make it one of the region's most recognisable shapes.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a summer year or a family name, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download for $9 or order a printed poster, framed if you like.
