Tinganes peninsula
A narrow rocky point dividing the harbour in two, packed with the small historic buildings of the Faroese government. From above it looks like a dark splinter set into the bay.

From above, Tórshavn gathers around a bay on the east coast of Streymoy, facing the island of Nólsoy across the water. A low rocky peninsula called Tinganes pushes into the harbour and splits the waterfront into two small basins. Behind it the town climbs gently uphill, its streets loosening into curving residential lanes as the ground rises towards open, treeless hillsides.
Tinganes is one of the oldest known parliamentary meeting places in the world. Norse assemblies are thought to have gathered on this rock from the Viking Age, and the Faroese government still sits among its tar-black wooden buildings with turf roofs. On a map the peninsula is a small, tight cluster of footprints. The quays, breakwaters and moorings reach out around it on both sides.
A Tórshavn map poster shows how small a capital can be and still read as a complete town. The harbour edge is busy with piers and jetties. Inland, the lines thin quickly: a few main roads lead north along the coast and west over the island. The contrast between dense waterfront and empty upland gives the print a quiet, northern balance.
A narrow rocky point dividing the harbour in two, packed with the small historic buildings of the Faroese government. From above it looks like a dark splinter set into the bay.
The waterfront curves into two basins, one on each side of Tinganes. Quays, breakwaters and short piers line the edges and trace the town's long relationship with fishing and the sea.
Away from the shore, residential lanes curve along the contours and then stop where open hillside begins. The edge of the street pattern shows exactly where the town gives way to the island's bare slopes.

Ko e hā ʻa Tórshavn
Tórshavn tends to stay with people who have made the long trip north, whether by ferry, by plane or as part of a Nordic journey. A map of its harbour and hillside streets is a calm, graphic reminder of weather, water and a very small capital.
The poster can be personalised with your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a travel date or a family name. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Each suits the harbour's clean lines in a different way.
