Ko e mape
Tourcoing is in the north of France, part of the Lille metropolitan area and right on the Belgian border. On the map there is no clear line where it ends. Its streets run directly into Roubaix to the south and into Belgian towns to the north, forming one continuous urban fabric.
The city grew as a textile centre in the nineteenth century, and the map still shows it. Long rows of workers' terraced houses sit beside large mill plots, and the Canal de Tourcoing and nearby waterways carry traces of the industrial past. Metro line 2 now links the centre directly to Lille.
A Tourcoing map poster has the texture of a manufacturing city. The terraces are fine-grained, and the old factories form larger blocks between them. Straight boulevards cut through the pattern, and the border simply runs across the streets without breaking them.
The urban fabric runs straight across the French–Belgian border, and streets continue with no visible break on the map.
Rows of workers' houses and large former mill sites reflect the city's history as a major centre of wool and textiles.
The canal runs through the city as a straight, calm line, a reminder of the waterways that served the industry.
