Treviso lies in the plain of the Veneto, north of Venice, and its historic centre is still enclosed by Renaissance walls. From above, the old town appears as a dense, rounded core, cut through by branches of the Sile and the Cagnan canals, which pass under houses and bridges on their way through the streets.
The canals give Treviso its character: water mills, narrow quays and small islands such as the Pescheria, the old fish market, lie within the walls. The city is known as the headquarters of Benetton and is often associated with tiramisù, while the prosecco hills lie to the north.
