Ubatuba lies on the northern coast of São Paulo state, where the Serra do Mar mountains come down almost to the sea. On the map, the municipality is a long, ragged coastline of coves, bays and headlands, each beach separated from the next by forested ridges. The town centre occupies one of the wider stretches of level ground.
Ubatuba is known for its many beaches, which number well over a hundred, and for the Atlantic Forest that covers the mountains behind them. The Tropic of Capricorn crosses the municipality, marked by a monument near the road, and the coastal highway BR-101 threads through the landscape, linking the beaches together.
A Ubatuba map poster turns this coast into a study of lines: the scalloped shoreline, the single road winding between bays, and the streets of the town gathered on the flat land by the water. The mountains and the sea leave large empty areas, which gives the black-and-white composition space and calm.
Dozens of coves and bays cut into the shore, separated by rocky points, creating one of the most intricate coastlines on the São Paulo coast.
The Rio–Santos highway follows the shore between mountains and sea, a single long line that links beach after beach along the map.
The centre of Ubatuba sits on level ground beside its bay, with a small street grid bounded by the water and the rising forest behind.

Ubatuba is where many paulistanos spend their holidays, surf their first waves, or keep a family beach house for generations. A map of the coast and the town is a way to bring that summer home.
