Vári lies in southern Attica, between the ridge of Mount Hymettus and the Saronic Gulf, and it is part of the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni. From above, the streets climb from the coastal plain onto the lower slopes. They bend around contours and stop where the ground gets too steep. The result is a map that shows where the city ends and the mountain begins.
Most of the area is low-rise housing with gardens and pine trees, so the street pattern is fairly open, with irregular blocks rather than a dense urban grid. Main roads link the suburb to Athens to the north and to the coast at Varkiza to the south. A Vári map poster shows a place between mountain and sea, with neither side fully in charge.
On the slopes of Hymettus above the town is the Vari Cave, an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Pan and the Nymphs and known for inscriptions and carvings left by visitors in antiquity.
