Ko e mape
Verāval lies on the south-western coast of the Saurashtra peninsula in Gujarat, facing the Arabian Sea. It is one of the largest fishing harbours in India, and from above, breakwaters, jetties and boatyards dominate the waterfront. The dense old town sits close behind the harbour in a tight network of narrow streets and markets.
Wooden fishing boats and dhows have been built here for generations, and the harbour's basins and quays are the most distinctive shapes on the map. Beyond the old centre, newer neighbourhoods spread inland along the main roads, and the coastline continues in a long curve to the south-east.
Somnath, one of the most important Hindu temple sites in India, lies just along the shore at Prabhas Patan. Verāval and Somnath form a continuous stretch of settlement along the coast.
