Wakkanai sits at the northern tip of Hokkaido, and its map is dominated by the sea. The city stretches along the shore of a bay, with its streets pressed into a narrow band between the water and the low hills behind. The harbour, with its breakwaters and piers, forms a series of sharp geometric shapes against the curve of the coast.
Wakkanai is the northernmost city in Japan, and nearby Cape Soya marks the country's northernmost point. On clear days, Sakhalin can be seen across the strait. Ferries leave the port for the islands of Rishiri and Rebun, and the arched North Breakwater Dome along the harbour is one of the city's best-known structures.
A Wakkanai map poster captures a city shaped by its edge: the long coastline, the harbour works, and the streets that follow the shore. It is a composition of lines and open space, suited to anyone drawn to northern places and the quiet of the far end of a country.

The city runs along the coast in a narrow band, with streets following the shore and hills rising behind them.
Wakkanai lies close to Cape Soya, Japan's northernmost point, facing the strait toward Sakhalin and giving the map a sense of edge.

Wakkanai's map suits travellers who have reached Japan's northern tip, and people with ties to Hokkaido. The long coastline and harbour shapes make a strong, graphic print with plenty of breathing room.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the date of your journey north. Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster from a nearby print partner.
