Wangen im Allgäu lies in the far south-east of Baden-Württemberg, close to the Bavarian border and not far from Lake Constance. Its core is a compact historic town that grew as an imperial free city. Two surviving city gates anchor the historic centre: the Ravensburger Tor and the Lindauer Tor, also known as the Martinstor.
