Yangjiang lies on the western coast of Guangdong, and on a map the Moyang River gives the city its shape. The river winds through the urban area on its way south to the sea. The central streets gather along its banks, and the newer districts spread outward over lower, flatter ground. The water divides the plan into clear sections, which gives a black-and-white print a natural structure.
South of the centre the land breaks up into a jagged coastline of bays, sandbars and headlands. Hailing Island lies just offshore and is one of the best-known stretches of coast in the province. The line where land meets sea is long and irregular, and it contrasts well with the more orderly streets inland. The result has a strong sense of place without any added decoration.
Yangjiang is known throughout China for knives and scissors, a metalworking trade with a long local history. Hailing Island is also home to a museum built to house the Nanhai No. 1, a Song-dynasty merchant ship raised from the sea floor. A Yangjiang map poster connects these stories to the ground plan: a river town that opens onto a busy, broken coast.
The river curves through the middle of the city toward its estuary. It separates the older core from the districts across the water and gives the layout its main direction.
Offshore, Hailing Island shows long beaches and sheltered bays. Its outline adds a detailed edge of sand and sea to the southern part of the map.
Where the river meets the sea, the shoreline splits into channels, spits and small inlets. Rendered in fine linework, they make a delicate pattern.

A Yangjiang map suits anyone with family or memories along this coast, whether from growing up by the Moyang or from summers on Hailing Island. The mix of river and sea gives the poster both calm and movement.
