Yashio sits on the low alluvial plain of southeastern Saitama Prefecture, just north of Tokyo's Adachi ward. From above it is almost perfectly flat, and water shapes it: rivers run along its edges, and the Naka River forms a long, gently curving boundary on the east. Inside those lines, a fine network of residential lanes fills nearly every block.
The city's rail spine is fairly new. The Tsukuba Express opened in 2005 and runs through Yashio on its way from Akihabara to Tsukuba, and new housing and roads grew up around the station. On a map this newer planned area stands out against the older, irregular lanes of the farm villages the city grew from.
A Yashio map poster shows a city with no hills and no grand avenues. Its character comes from texture: small streets packed closely together, expressway ramps cutting across at an angle, and river embankments drawing clean edges. Printed in black and white, the plain becomes a detailed field of lines held in place by water.
The Naka River runs along the eastern side of the city in a long, smooth curve. On the poster it is a strong boundary against the dense street grid on either bank.
The line that opened in 2005 cuts a straight path through the city. Around its station, newer and more regular blocks contrast with the older lanes nearby.
Without hills to bend them, Yashio's streets fill the land evenly. The result is a fine, even pattern that looks almost like woven cloth when printed in monochrome.

People who have lived in Yashio or commuted from it into Tokyo know it as an everyday place, and a map records that honestly: the station you walked to, the river path, the street you lived on. It is a quiet, personal choice for a wall.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a move-in date or a family name. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
