Yevpatoriya lies on the western coast of Crimea, along the shores of Kalamita Bay. From above, the town follows the long curve of the bay, with beaches and resort districts stretching along the shore and salt lakes lying just inland, their outlines forming large open shapes on the map.
The old town sits near the harbour, where a tangle of narrow, irregular streets contrasts with the more regular blocks of the later town. Here stands the Juma-Jami Mosque, attributed to the Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, alongside the Karaite kenesas and other historic buildings reflecting the town's many communities.
