Yuanyang lies north of central Chongqing, in an area where the city's newer districts have spread across hilly land. On a map it looks layered: large residential blocks and wide roads laid over uneven ground, with slopes and green ridges left open between them. Expressways curve around the hills, and the streets bend to follow the land instead of a strict grid.
