A few principal roads run through the district and carry most traffic, forming the firmer lines around which the smaller streets are arranged.

Akowonjo Map Poster & Print
Akowonjo is part of mainland Lagos, in the densely built area northwest of the city's larger commercial centres. From above it is almost entirely residential: short streets, small plots and compounds, and a tight network of lanes that branch off a few main roads. There is little open space on the map, and each block is filled almost to its edge.
As Lagos grew outward over recent decades, districts like Akowonjo filled up quickly with family homes, shops and churches, often without a single master plan. The resulting street pattern changes direction from one part of the neighbourhood to the next as each estate was laid out on its own. That lack of uniformity gives the map a lot of variety at close range.
An Akowonjo map poster focuses on that detail. Instead of a coastline or a monument, the subject is the neighbourhood's own texture, the way streets branch, bend and meet. In black and white the dense grid becomes almost a pattern, and the main roads stand out as clearer lines that help people locate their own street.

Estate street patterns
Separately developed estates each have their own grid orientation, so the neighbourhood is a patchwork of slightly different street alignments.
Dense residential fabric
Small plots and narrow lanes cover almost the whole area, which produces a rich, even texture when printed at larger sizes.
