Narrow lanes converge on the shrine, shops and lodgings for pilgrims line the approach roads, and residential areas spread out from this religious centre into farmland.
The Basukinath temple is dedicated to Shiva and draws large numbers of pilgrims, particularly during the month of Shravan, when many devotees visit after worship at nearby Deoghar.
