Bischheim lies directly north of Strasbourg and forms one continuous built-up area with Schiltigheim and Hoenheim. On a map the borders between them are barely visible. Streets run on from one town into the next, old village roads mix with twentieth-century housing and industrial sites, and the whole area forms a tight mesh on the flat Rhine plain.
Bischheim is part of the Eurométropole de Strasbourg and is linked to the city centre by tram. It has an old core of Alsatian houses and was once home to one of the larger rural Jewish communities in Alsace. The Cour des Boecklin, a restored historic house and courtyard, is now a museum and cultural venue.
