Buka Passage
A narrow, fast-running strait separates Buka from Bougainville. On the map it is a thin line of water, yet it shapes daily life, trade and travel on both sides.

Buka Island Map Poster & Print
Buka Island lies at the northern end of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea, just across a slender strait from the much larger island of Bougainville itself. From above it is an elongated, largely low-lying island, green with gardens and plantations. Reefs fringe its shoreline, and small islands dot the water around it.
The Buka Passage, only a few hundred metres wide, carries strong tidal currents, and small boats cross it constantly. On its northern shore stands Buka town, the administrative centre of the autonomous region. Its streets, market and wharves along the passage form the only real urban grid on the island and the busiest point on the map.
Roads link Buka town with villages along the coast, and the airport lies close to the passage in the south. A Buka Island map poster works best when it includes the passage and the northern tip of Bougainville. The narrow channel, the town beside it and the long green island beyond then read together.

Buka town
The regional administrative centre spreads along the northern shore of the passage and holds the island's densest streets, its market and its main wharves.
Reef-fringed coast
Coral reefs and small islands edge much of Buka's shoreline, softening its outline and adding a scatter of fine shapes around the main island.

Neden Buka Island
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
Buka is where much of Bougainville's public life now gathers, and it is home to families with relatives across Papua New Guinea and beyond. A poster of the island and its passage is a quiet, lasting reminder of home, or of a posting there for aid, government or church work.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed for a village name, a date or a message. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download the $9 HD files to print locally, or order a matte poster from a print partner.
